  • Start construction of 126,000 cbm warehouse at European Bulk Services as part of Master Plan to increase capacity to 800,000 cbm
  • Acquisition of Valt Asphalt Terminal B.V.
  • All investments backed by multi-year customer contracts

Rotterdam, 28 November 2017 – HES International B.V, one of Europe’s largest independent diversified bulk handling companies, is continuously expanding its tank storage division and closed storage capacity for dry bulk products such as agricultural products, biomass and industrial minerals.

Doubling of liquid bulk capacity and geared for further growth

Today, the company announced that HES Botlek Tank Terminal, located at the heart of the chemical industry cluster of the Port of Rotterdam, has taken into service an additional 277,000 cbm of tank capacity. HES Botlek Tank Terminal now offers a total of ca 490,000 cbm of tank space to its customers. The company also expects to soon start construction of an additional 130,000 cbm of tank space for which the most essential permits and commercial agreements are already in place. For this project, HES has agreed with the Port of Rotterdam to construct a new jetty to accommodate tankers up to Suezmax size to support the expansion of the terminal.

Further diversification of dry bulk portfolio and expansion of covered storage capacity

HES is also investing into new products and services to address changes in market and customer demand and to grow its services in agricultural products, minerals, building materials and biomass - products that often require high quality covered storage such as silos or sheds or state of the art processing equipment.

In line with this strategy, HES has committed to a four-year masterplan at EBS to construct a total of 350,000 cbm of additional warehouse space at the Laurenshaven and Europoort locations will increase EBS’ total available covered storage to over 800,000 cbm.

As a further step in executing this masterplan, last week EBS started construction of three multi-purpose sheds with a combined capacity of 126,000 cbm. The new sheds that are located at the Laurenshaven terminal will be suitable to cater for a variety of products, ranging from minerals to agricultural products and biomass. As a result, open storage area, previously used for coal storage, will be reduced by more than 18,500 m2. For the new storage facilities, EBS has reached commercial agreement with a well-respected customer, agreeing on a long-term cooperation regarding integrated logistics that require high quality covered storage. At the same time, EBS has also launched the permitting process to construct an additional 50,000 cbm Agri shed at the Europoort terminal, which will be commissioned in 2018.

Already in 2017 EBS took a 60,000 m3 multi-purpose shed into operation at its Laurenshaven terminal as part of this same transition plan.

CEO of HES International, Jan Vogel: "HES International has a longstanding history and a strong track record in providing safe and reliable storage and port infrastructure at key locations in Europe. Our customers are large industrial clients that count on the reliability of our services and appreciate the quality and logistical advantages of our terminals. The realisation of these key infrastructure projects but also our recent acquisition of the Asphalt and Bitumen terminal from Valt are a central part of this strategy. We are equally excited that we see similar developments and opportunities at most of our other terminals."
